LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine announced the 2020 high school football season will be delayed, because the State of Louisiana remains in Phase Two. The targeted start dates for high school football are now Thursday, October 8th through Saturday October 10th. Bonine emphasized that getting to phase three would require a significant drop in Covid-19 cases between now and the first week of October. Start dates would be in week 3 of the prep season, and schools would start competition against week 3 opponents. Bonine says he hopes for a six game regular season with the Prep Classic State Championship games in the Superdome around the second weekend of December. The shortened season would limit the amount of teams that qualify for the playoffs. And Bonine did mention the possibility of moving state championship games back to January at an outdoor venue, if need be. The LHSAA and their medical advisors stressed how fluid this situation is, but also recognized the importance of offering fall sports to students.
