Chief Ferrell with the Covington Police Department says some citizens are receiving scam calls claiming to be law enforcement officers.
In these calls the scammer threatens to have the Covington Police Department kick in their door if they do not provide payment or bank account information over the phone. The Covington Police Department is not a collection agency. The department will never ask you for your social security number or bank account information over the phone.
Chief Ferrell said if you get a call from one of these scammers, please do not give them any sensitive information.
