New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced that there won’t be any changes to the city’s mask policy in a news conference on Thursday, but Cantrell did say that some restrictions will be loosened beginning today.
Most businesses will see increased capacity limits with social distancing and masking protocols in place.
According to Cantrell, outdoor gathering capacity will increase to 500 and indoor gatherings with an increase to 250 people. Most restaurants and retail businesses will be allowed to increase capacity to 100 percent with masking and social distancing.
A spokesman for the city said as of Tuesday, nobody has died from the virus in the city in roughly a week.
During the press conference Dr. Jennifer Avegno announced that 40 percent of New Orleans residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. She stressed that vaccines are free and are available all over the city.
