Yesterday Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his own proposal for how Louisiana will use funding provided through President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
Edwards has requested no less than $1.6 billion in funding from the plan.
According to Edwards, funding will be split between replenishing the state’s unemployment insurance trust fund, infrastructure projects, tourism, the state’s ports, and water systems. Edwards said he has allocated a majority of the funding, about $630 million, to the UI fund that was depleted during the coronavirus pandemic. The other half of the American Rescue Plan funding will come to the state over the next two years and will be used for various projects and boosting the economy.
