After two long years of rebuilding, reconstruction, re-wiring, refitting, and delays the US-11 bridge is finally set to reopen this Spring. Over $28 million has been spent to renovate the 93-year old span. The electrical system has been rebuilt, the mechanical system for the two drawbridges have been completely rebuilt. There was also concrete work, structural repairs, and roadway surfacing, in order to get the nearly 5-mile span up to code and back in service. Delays cropped up with more than expected work to be done and then, COVID-19, along with a hurricane season with six named storms putting the span in the cone of uncertainty. Though the date hasn’t been specific, residents who make the commute into Orleans Parish are more than ready to get the bridge back in service.
