The group behind the proposed casino in Slidell decided to dramatically sweeten the pot yesterday with a letter that went out to parish leaders and Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer.
Under this plan, the Slidell Regional Sports Complex would not be paid for over time, as had been written into their agreement. Instead, in their words, P2E says “Upon approval of our resort, P2E agrees to provide the entire $35 million contribution available for sports complex construction.”
The letter, signed by Brent Stevens, Peninsula Pacific Entertainment Chairman and CEO, was also copied to members of the local legislative delegation and Chris Masingill, CEO of the St Tammany Corporation. Stevens wrote that their goal was to demonstrate their commitment to being a strong community partner. He also wrote, “Unlike other times this proposed sports complex failed, taxpayers will not foot the bill or be on the hook for any bonds. The goal is for the complex to be a self-sufficient benefit to Slidell families for generations to come.”
The entire letter can be read below.
