Yesterday STHS set an unfortunate new record.
Their previous peak of COVID inpatient census (66) was in January.
Yesterday, St. Tammany Health System adult census was 177 patients, 67 of whom are in COVID care. 85% of those COVID patients were unvaccinated.
STHS has converted and scaled up more COVID units, and they have plans for how to surge past their newest capabilities. They also have monoclonal antibodies and other innovations in care for COVID patients. But they stress that they also know that getting vaccinated helps the population not get sick enough to require hospitalization in the first place.
In addition to STHS, earlier this week North Oaks in Hammond broke its own record with 77 COVID inpatients.
