St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper joined other local officials all over the Northshore mourning the loss of former Lt. Governor James “Jimmy” Fitzmorris, Jr.
Cooper said when he thinks of Jimmy, he’ll remember his compassionate friendship and desire to put others before self. Cooper added that Jimmy was an honest, hard-working gentleman in the truest sense of the word and asked others to please join in praying for his daughter, Lisa, and the Fitzmorris and Clement families.
Fitzmorris spent much of his adult life serving the people of Louisiana and the United States, as a U.S. Army World War II veteran and dedicated elected leader. In addition to serving the citizens of New Orleans as City Councilman, Fitzmorris led the state of Louisiana as Lt. Governor and Senate President. Fitzmorris, 99, passed away Wednesday in Slidell.
