Successful Test at Stennis

The rockets that will be used to carry a crew to the moon and eventually deeper into space were tested at Stennis Space Center of the weekend. Instead of a test that NASA said could run for as long as 8 minutes, the test lasted for just over one minute. NASA still said it was a successful test. Those who witnessed the firing cheered when they saw the first heard the rumble of power. A NASA blog post said that all four engines ignited successfully, but the test was stopped early after about a minute. The report said the test was fully automated and that during the firing, the onboard software initiated a safe shutdown of the engines. Following this weekend’s test, the rockets were scheduled to be sent to Kennedy Space Center to be part of the first un-crewed launch later this year into deep space, around the moon and back.
