New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says the city will open up more, in its incremental version of Phase 3. The mayor says “Phase 3.2” will begin Saturday. Bars with outdoor seating will be able to seat 50 customers or 25 percent of their maximum occupancy, outdoor sporting events being able to hold up to 500 people or 25 percent of venue capacity, and religious gatherings will have a maximum of 500 people or fifty percent of venue capacity. All will be limited to whichever number results in fewer people.
Cantrell said she is not opposed to the Saints playing at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge until her administration believes it is safe to play in the Superdome. The Saints sent Cantrell a request to allow the Superdome to host fans at 25% capacity. She said the Superdome is not ready for 20,000 fans during the pandemic. Cantrell said it is going to require work with the Saints administration as well as the city’s public health partners. The team has explored the idea of playing games at LSU for the past several weeks.
