Clay Madden will be Mandeville’s next mayor after he defeated Laure Sica. It was a close contest with Madden receiving 52 percent of the vote. Turnout was nearly 38 percent. Mandeville voters also approved their half-cent sales tax by a 64 percent to 36 percent margin.
Rick Smith won the Covington Councilman at Large seat. He carried 67 percent of the votes cast. Unofficial turnout is estimated at just over 20 percent in that race.
In Washington Parish, voters approved an 18 mill tax renewal for Hospital Service District #1. The 10-year renewal passed with 78 percent approval with slightly over 10 percent of eligible voters casting ballots.
