Hammond voters overwhelmingly backed emergency responders Saturday, renewing 10 mill taxes to support police and fire service. Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto thanked voters who supported the 10 mill police and fire millage renewal by more than 80 percent. He said thanks to all the people who went to the polls to support our police and fire by renewing the millage. He called the funding critical to the safety and future growth of Hammond. The proposition passed by a 952-189 vote margin, according to Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Court Gary Stanga. In Independence, 93 percent of the voters approved the 10 mill tax to fund police and fire services inside the town limits.
