LDWF reminds all that hurricane season is here.
It’s crucial to stay informed and prepared.
Here are some tips on how to be prepared at all times, to keep yourself and your loved ones safe during this season:
Prepare an emergency kit: Include non-perishable food, water, flashlights, batteries, first aid supplies, medications, and important documents.
Stay Informed: Follow the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness for important updates. Know your evacuation routes and have a plan in place for where you will go if you need to evacuate.
Trim trees and shrubs, secure outdoor furniture, and clear gutters to minimize potential damage from high winds and heavy rain.
Make digital copies of important documents like insurance policies, identification, and medical records. Make sure your pets have identification tags and a safe place to stay during the storm. Have extra food, water, and medications for them as well.
Keep your vehicles fueled up in case you need to evacuate quickly. Gas stations may be closed or crowded during a hurricane, so it’s best to be prepared.
ATM machines may be out of service during and after a storm, so it’s a good idea to have cash on hand for emergency expenses.
Stay in touch with family members, especially those who may need assistance during a storm. Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors to ensure they are prepared.
