Two TPSO Escaped Inmates Captured; Two at Large

Trayvon Johnson and Avery Guidry were located hiding in a dumpster behind the Dollar General Store on Pumpkin Center Road and Old Baton Rouge Highway. Omarion Hookfin and Jamarcus Cyprian were still at large.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said the four inmates were able to escape the perimeter fence of the Parish Jail while participating in their recreation time on the yard. Upon inspection of the perimeter fence, a section of the fence was found to be vulnerable and easily maneuvered in such a way that a small statured body could slide through.

According to Chief Jimmy Travis, the inmates escaped in pairs, the first pair on Saturday afternoon (May 25) and the second on Sunday afternoon, using the same route. They broke through corroded chain-link fence, crawled under an 8-inch gap in a wall, and scaled two razor-wire fences. Travis said jail authorities only learned of the escapes Sunday around 3:40 p.m., when a concerned citizen reported seeing two of the inmates at a relative’s house looking for a place to stay. When deputies began investigating, they found the other two were missing as well.

The four subjects who escaped were Omarion Hookfin, 19 years old b/m of Hammond; Avery Guidry, 19 years old b/m of Natalbany; Jamarcus Cyprian, 20 years old b/m of Amite; and Travon Johnson, 21 years old b/m of Natalbany. Johnson, Hookfin and Guidry were in jail following their arrest for a 2022 homicide in Hammond, whereas Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery and weapon charges. Hoofkin also acquired additional charges of aggravated battery while incarcerated in the Catahoula Parish.
