St. Tammany Parish Library’s highly successful Food for Fines will return next week starting April 8 through April 20 in celebration of National Library Week.
As with past Food for Fines programs, the Library will accept one nonperishable food donation for $1 off fines.
In addition to collecting food for local food banks such as the Northshore Food Bank, First Baptist Church of Slidell Food Pantry and the Samaritan Center, the Library will also be accepting canned pet food donations for pet owners in need. The pet food donations will be distributed to the St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services to fill their public Pet Food Pantry on their property. Staff at the shelter have stated that several pet owners have decided to keep their pet, solely because they were able to use the pantry during tough times.
All donations will be credited the same, one item for $1, to be used on fees, fines and the cost of lost items.
All replacement library cards will also be free during Food for Fines, no donation is needed.
