Work has begun on a massive 18-month project to overhaul the I-10 interchange at Menge Avenue, and eventually construct the first Buc-ee’s in Mississippi.
Within hours of the first lane closure, interstate traffic was backed up.
Drivers along the Mississippi Gulf Coast will face delays over the next year and a half as Mississippi Department of Transportation crews work to widen I-10, Menge Avenue, and Firetower Road.
The overpass will also be completely rebuilt. That phase of the project will cut off traffic on Menge Avenue and will take 13 months to complete.
No start date has been given from Buc-ee’s corporate as to when the store will be built, but local officials hope that the business will be up and running within two years.
