
There were limited elections in the area on Saturday.
In Livingston Parish voters rejected a one cent sales tax that officials said would have paid for raises for their public school system employees. According to unofficial returns from Saturday’s primary election, voters denied the proposal by a 54-46 percent margin. The Secretary of State’s office estimated turnout at 20.5 percent.
In Covington the District D City Council seat appears to be heading for a run-off. Jimmy Inman received 40 percent of the primary vote to Cody Ludwig’s 39 percent. Benjamin Guidry finished third with 18 percent.
Also in St Tammany in Fire District 13, voters approved a 9.74 mill property tax renewal for fire protection. The proposition passed with 85 percent of the ballots cast. Turnout in that race was estimated at just 6.6 percent.
In Killian, voters rejected a one cent sales tax. Turnout was estimated at 23.9 percent. 61 percent of the ballots cast opposed the tax proposition.
And in the Village of Tangipahoa, voters rejected a ten mill property tax to fund fire protection in that community. 68 percent opposed and turnout was just 10.7 percent according to the Secretary of State’s office.
