
On April 13, the Hammond Police Department responded to the 400 block of East Colorado Street in response to a shooting.
Officers located the victim lying on the roadway at the corner of East Charles and North Holly Streets. They administered first aid to the victim, who was transported to North Oaks Medical Center with a gunshot to his leg.
During the investigation, HPD detectives learned the shooting took place at a residence in the 400 block of East Colorado Street. Officers responded to the residence, but the suspects refused to come out.
The HPD Special Response Team was activated. After brief negotiations, all occupants of the residence exited safely.
As they began interviews, HPD detectives learned the shooting was the result of an argument between family members. Witnesses were able to identify Ty’terrion Collier, 23 years old of Hammond, and Ty’gabrion Collier, 19 years old of Hammond, as the shooters.
Ty’terrion was detained shortly after the incident during a traffic stop. He was booked on one count of Attempted Second Degree Homicide, one count of Aggravated Obstruction of a Roadway, one count of Illegal Discharge of a Weapon, one count of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon while Committing a Violent Crime, and one count of Obstruction of Justice.
