Forecasters are warning residents all over southeast Louisiana to be ready for the possibility of tornadoes, power outages and flash floods across our area Tuesday afternoon and into the evening.
The National Weather Service, in a message to local meteorologists and emergency managers yesterday, said to have a place to shelter at work, school, or home and make sure to have emergency supplies ready. Winds of up to 60 mph and tornadoes are the main potential threats, with hail greater than an inch in diameter also possible.
Tangipahoa Parish Schools said they were watching Tuesday’s weather forecast and working with local authorities to make the safest decisions for their families. The forecast is for the worst weather to come through Tangipahoa Parish after 3 PM. Therefore, they will have a half day dismissal today, March 22nd, and all after school activities are canceled. They said they will continue to watch the forecast as it moves closer to their parish and make adjustments as needed. Parents should make the best decisions regarding the safety of their children.
Meanwhile the St. Tammany Parish Public School System said due to the potential extreme weather conditions that today will be a distance learning day for all STPPS schools and activities are canceled. All students will need to log in to their Google Classroom and follow the posted instructions. View the Emergency Distance Learning Plan and more details at www.stpsb.org. They added that keeping students out of classrooms is never a decision they like to make, but keeping everyone safe is their priority.
