
On February 21, 2022, the Hammond Police Department Patrol Officers were conducting proactive patrols in the Range Road and East Park Avenue areas.
HPD officers stopped a Dodge Journey for Improper Window Tint.
The driver, Deserie Johnson, 41 YO of Roseland, was advised of the reason for the stop, and the officer could smell the strong odor of marijuana.
The driver was unable to produce an identification and was placed into custody.
The passenger, Charity Wilson, 32 YO of Kentwood, was found to be in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and suspected marijuana. The weapon was listed as lost from the Jackson Police Department in Mississippi.
After searching the vehicle, HPD officers located another 9mm semi-automatic handgun and quantities of suspected “crack cocaine” and powder cocaine.
Both Wilson and Johnson were transported to the Hammond City Jail and face multiple drug charges.
