On the morning of December 25, at approximately 5:30 AM, the Hammond Police Department responded to a fatal crash on US Highway 190 East at Arc Way.
This crash claimed the life of Cynthia Renee Powell-Stimage, 21 years old of Hammond.
The investigation revealed a 2020 Nissan Kick, driven by Powell-Stimage, was eastbound on US Highway 190.
For reasons still under investigation, Powell-Stimage failed to negotiate the slight curve at the intersection with Arc Way and ran off of the right hand side of the road.
As a result, the Nissan impacted a culvert and overturned. Powell-Stimage, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis as is done with all fatal crashes.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted, inattentive and drowsy driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state.
Hammond Police urges all motorists to stay alert while driving.
