Yesterday the Louisiana Department of Health issued an alert that Omicron is surging statewide.
They said hospitalizations have doubled in the last week, at 449 as of yesterday.
Eighty percent of people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 are not fully vaccinated.
Meanwhile, cases continue to jump, including a number of reinfections.
They are urging everyone to take safety precautions ahead of New Year’s Eve. Current vaccines are expected to protect against severe illness, hospitalizations and deaths due to infection with the Omicron variant.
The Department of Health is also advising people to mask indoors. That includes all public spaces, private spaces where you are gathering with those outside your household and outdoor spaces when distancing is not possible.
Work remotely if possible.
Limit exposure to those outside your household.
And get tested often.
