Yesterday St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper announced ongoing geotechnical and surveying work on three Slidell ring levees, in an effort to gain certification which could lower the base flood elevation and reduce flood insurance rates.
Cooper said he is hopeful that once this work is complete, FEMA will recognize the Oak Harbor and two Kingspoint subdivision ring levees as capable of withstanding a storm surge and lower the BFE.
The surveys, which are being performed by Bryant Hammett & Associates (BHA), will examine significant topography, servitude and right-of-way boundaries, as well as cross sections.
Crews are currently on-site analyzing control and alignment.
Geotechnical field explorations, which consists of 3-inch diameter standard borings, will conducted by Premier Geotech and Testing.
The boring endeavors will begin in December.
The work is expected to be completed in early 2022.
All crews will be highly identifiable by clothing and vehicles with logos.
