On March 20, 2024, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office began investigating the harsh homicide of Ponchatoula resident, 45 YO Lisa Hernandez.
Over the course of the investigation, detectives identified the victim’s husband, 49 YO David Hernandez, as the primary suspect.
After one year of separation, David began stalking Lisa and would randomly show up at her place of employment. Recently, David even sent Lisa a bouquet of flowers containing lilies, also known as the “death flower”, to which she was highly allergic to. Additionally, detectives recovered a tracking device from Lisa’s vehicle, which was also been linked to Hernandez.
On the day Lisa was murdered, detectives determined that David staged a burglary at her residence and later discarded items he used from her home in the homicide into Lake Pontchartrain. With the help of law enforcement agencies, detectives were able to locate and recover the discarded items.
On April 15, 2024, detectives took David Hernandez into custody, where he was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on one count of Second-Degree Murder and one count of Obstruction of Justice.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Causeway Police Department, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Land, Air and Sea Emergency Rescue Division for their help in this homicide investigation.
