
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating fights at two Tangipahoa Parish schools which have stirred attention on social media.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards says on February 29, 2024, a fight took place at the Hammond High School campus in which two juveniles were engaged. During the altercation, one juvenile fell into a bulletin board which caused a laceration to their head. A series of videos circulating social media sparked rumors the student was stabbed, however, the injuries sustained were not caused by an intentional stabbing. In this incident, the 16 YO offender was charged with (1) count Second Degree Battery, (1) count Inciting a Riot, and (1) count Disruption of operation of a school.
A second incident was reported to have occurred at Ponchatoula High School on the same day. Detectives are still investigating this incident and charges will be announced if applied. Due to the nature of these incidents, and the parties involved being juveniles, no further information will be available.
