On Friday, December 29, shortly before 9:00pm, Slidell Police responded to a head-on collision on the U.S. Highway 11 overpass.
The crash claimed the lives of 40 YO Jennifer Hemphill of Slidell and 39 YO Joshua Williams of New Orleans.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the crash occurred as Hemphill, and her passenger (Williams) were traveling northbound in a 2021 Volkswagen Passat. At the same time, a 2013 Honda Accord was southbound on the overpass. The initial evidence indicates that Hemphill crossed the centerline, into the opposing lane of travel, crashing head-on into the Honda Accord.
None of the involved parties were restrained at the time of the crash.
Williams (the passenger in the Passat) sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hemphill (driver of the Passat) was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Honda Accord was flown by medial helicopter to University Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
As part of the investigation, toxicology samples were obtained for analysis.
