Mardi Gras krewes in Slidell will have to pay more to parade after city council members approved new rules during a recent meeting.
Under the new rules, which will take effect in 2025, parade fees will double. Krewes that parade during the day will now have to pay a $4,000 fee, while krewes that host night parades will have to pay an $8,000 fee.
Council members unanimously approved the new fee schedule. The council also approved a measure permanently adopting the 2023 parade schedule.
These votes came as Slidell sought to find ways to offset rising police overtime costs stemming from Mardi Gras parade. Last year, the city saw a $20,000 increase in overtime pay when it held parades on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the first weekend of parades.
