William S. Wainwright will be officially invested as the 15th president of Southeastern Louisiana University on Friday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m.
The investiture or installation of a new university president is a ceremony dating to the Middle Ages. In addition to honoring the individual assuming the office, the investiture is an opportunity to recall the institution’s past, celebrate the present, and serve as a harbinger of the future.
The appointment of a new president is a landmark in a university’s history and initiates a new era. The ceremony represents the “investing” in a university leader the dignity and authority associated with the position.
The event will be held at the Student Union Grand Ballroom and attended by local dignitaries, school officials and supporters of the school.
