
With 60% of the vote Jason Smith won Saturday’s runoff election in Washington Parish, ousting longtime sheriff Randy “Country” Seal.
Smith is retired from the Marine Corps, and now runs a ranch near the Mississippi state line.
Smith served two combat tours in Iraq as a company commander.
Smith says he is committed to making institutional changes that build trust with the community and help law enforcement to prevent and respond to crime and improve quality of life for all families.
In the Parish President’s race Republican Ryan Seal won against Republican Malinda Brumfield White. Richard “Ned” Thomas, Jr. previously held the position.
