The Hammond Police Department is investigating several recent vehicle burglaries.
On September 20, 2023, a report of a vehicle burglary at the Hampton Inn, located at 401 Westin Oaks Drive, was received where the suspect broke a rear passenger window during the night. The suspect then rummaged through the vehicle and stole the victim’s handgun.
On September 28, 2023, around 6:00 am, four more vehicle burglaries were reported where the same entry was made, however nothing appeared to be stolen. These four burglaries also had their steering columns broken, as if the suspect was attempting to steal the vehicle.
These burglaries took place at the Hampton Inn and the Econo Lodge, located at 408 Westin Oaks Drive, during late night to early morning hours. The suspect is a black female, approximately 20-30 years old, medium build, medium skin complexion and short hair. The suspect is seen walking on foot at each vehicle burglary, then walking towards the Super 8 Motel, located at 200 Westin Oaks Drive. It is unknown if the suspect was staying there.
