Louisiana lawmaker and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has been diagnosed with cancer.
He said after a few days of not feeling like himself had some blood work done and the results uncovered some irregularities. After undergoing additional tests, he said he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a very treatable blood cancer.
Scalise said he has begun treatment, which will continue for the next several months.
Senator Bill Cassidy said the same faith, family support, and internal strength that made Steve such an inspiration to others after he was shot, will bring him through this illness and once more inspire us all.
While Governor John Bel Edwards said he and his wife asked the people of Louisiana to join them in praying for Scalise as he begins chemotherapy.
Scalise was nearly killed in 2017 when a gunman opened fire during practice for the Congressional Baseball Game. It took three months of surgeries and recovery before he could return to the US Capitol.
