The pedestrian in Sunday’s fatal accident in Slidell was identified by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office as 79 YO Alvin Buras of Slidell.
Shortly after releasing the facts of the crash, it was discovered that the family of Mr. Buras was in the process of filing a missing persons report. Unfortunately, that is when it was discovered that Mr. Buras was the pedestrian from the fatal incident.
Shortly before 8:30 pm on Sunday Slidell Police responded to the intersection of Gause Boulevard West (Hwy 190 W) and Carroll Road in reference to a vehicle that struck a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 17 YO man was driving a gold colored 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche truck westbound on Gause Boulevard West. A pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway (Sunset Drive towards Carroll Road) and was struck by the truck. All indications show that the driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian, but to no avail.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver. Impairment is not suspected; however, toxicology tests were taken from both the driver and the pedestrian. The results are pending.
The investigation is on-going.
