Louisiana State Senator Beth Mizell wants to raise the minimum age to enter a bar in Louisiana to 21.
Unlike most bars in the United States, someone as young as 18 can be in a bar in Louisiana, even though they can not buy drinks.
Mizell says after what happened to LSU student Madison Brooks after leaving Reggie’s back in January, she wants to change the state’s attitude toward bars. Senator Mizell said Madison’s death was a tragedy that never should have happened. She said three of the assailants involved in the senseless act of violence were under 21 and should have been nowhere near that bar.
A bill from Senator Mizell would put Louisiana with the rest of the country and ban anyone under the age of 21 from entering bars.
Lawmakers travel to the Louisiana State Capitol on Monday, April 10.
