Last week St. Tammany Coroner Dr. Charles Preston identified the man who died Wednesday after deputies responded to a distress call from a suicidal person.
24 YO Timothy Duczer died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Preston and Chief Deputy Coroner Dr. Robert Sigillito both responded to the scene at 335 5th St., near Slidell.
The cause of death was the gunshot wound. The manner of death was suicide.
At approximately 5:45 p.m. Wednesday STPSO deputies responded to a 911 call received from a Slidell resident. During the course of the telephone call, the man informed the dispatcher he was armed with a firearm and voiced suicidal ideations. Responding deputies located the man sitting outside the residence with a firearm. They made verbal contact with the man and began attempting to initiate dialogue. The man refused to follow deputies’ commands, raised the firearm and discharged the pistol. Instantaneously, one of the deputies returned fire. The man expired from the self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. At the subsequent autopsy, it was learned that one of the rounds from the deputy struck the man, but it was determined to be non-contributory to his death.
Preston said a new suicide hotline is now active nationwide; citizens in distress or seeking resources call simply call 988 anywhere in the United States and be connected to help.
