Foggy conditions over the weekend led to a total of 16 vehicles being involved in several separate crashes along I-10 in Slidell Saturday night and early Sunday morning, one of those crashes included a fatality.
Troopers from State Police Troop L said shortly before 1:00 AM they began investigating a two vehicle crash on I-10 near LA Hwy 1090 that claimed the life of 36 YO John Crow of Pascagoula.
Crow was a paramedic working for Acadian Ambulance and St. Tammany Coroner Dr. Charles Preston said he died of multiple blunt trauma.
State Police said the initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Crow was westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2021 Chevrolet Ambulance. At the same time, a 2020 Volvo Straight Box Truck was also westbound on Interstate 10 directly in front of the Ambulance. For reasons still under investigation, the Ambulance struck the rear of the Volvo in the left lane. Despite Crow being properly restrained, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The driver of the Volvo was properly restrained and sustained no injuries.
Two passengers in the Ambulance sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to a local hospital.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.
Meanwhile twenty vehicles were involved in a pileup on I-12 eastbound in Denham Springs around the Pete Hwy. overpass around 12:30 am on Jan. 1st. that shut down the interstate for hours. Denham Springs Police said all the injuries were reported as minor or moderate.
