Deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and other First Responder partners worked the scene of a double fatality crash on LA Hwy 16 north of Sims Road.
Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed LPSO was involved in a short pursuit prior to the crash as deputies were attempting to stop the driver who was wanted for outstanding felony warrants.
The driver refused to stop and collided with another vehicle after crossing the center line.
The driver was treated at a local hospital but his two passengers were killed in the crash.
After notifying next of kin Ard identified the deceased as 25 YO Cullen Pitre and 27 YO Logan McDonald.
The driver and wanted suspect in the crash was identified as 27 YO Benjamin Fontenot. Fontenot faces numerous charges from the pursuit and crash including Negligent Homicide, as well as the original charges which Theft of a Motor Vehicle and drug charges.
