As of last night, the Town of Amite was working to repair a major water main.
A spokesperson for the town said the 12-inch main is located near the corner of US 51 North and Pecan Street.
Officials said it could be daylight today before water is restored.
As of 8:30 p.m., the entire town was under a boil water advisory out of caution for residents.
Under the terms of this advisory, it is recommended residents disinfect water before consumption, making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods. It is advised to boil water at least three (3) minutes before using.
The Town of Amite City will rescind the boil water advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals – Office of Public Health that the water samples collected from the water supply system have shown the water to be safe.
Anyone with questions should contact City Hall at 985-748-8761 or the Mayor’s Office 985-284-7075.
