Mayor Wendy Perrette was celebrating homecoming at her alma mater’s football game over the weekend when gunfire outside the Bogalusa High School stadium sent people scattering and claimed the life of a 15 YO boy.
Officers located 18 to 20 fired rounds.
Initial assessments on the crime scene indicated that there were three people exchanging gunfire, and one of them was the victim.
The next morning Mayor Perrette said their entire community was fed up with the violence. She said the police department is well-trained, well-equipped and well-staffed, but unless they place a police officer on every corner, preventing violence is the responsibility of the entire city. Perrette said police must have the cooperation of every single citizen in both preventing and solving crime, that includes faith community leaders and parents must do their jobs since police alone cannot do this job alone. Perrette closed by saying that someone knows who was responsible for this horror, and it is their obligation to come forward.
