Trying to break up the car stunt shows in the city, on Thursday the New Orleans City Council passed an ordinance to criminalize the act.
Penalties now consist of up to $500 in fines and 30 days of jail time for a first-time conviction. Second-time offenders could face a $500 fine along with imprisonment for no less than 90 days.
The new ordinance also involve a procedure that would allow for the seizure of vehicles.
Those who advertise on social media and block streets to view these types of stunts can also now face penalties.
The New Orleans City Council said there has been a rise in these stunt shows throughout the city. Hot spots include the CBD, near the Claiborne Bridge and in New Orleans East.
Neighbors and business owners said it is dangerous and they support the ordinance.
