
Steven Newsome was located and taken into custody yesterday in the Tickfaw area by members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
He will be booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail, while awaiting transport to St. Tammany Parish.
Sheriff Randy Smith thanks the U.S. Marshals Service and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in locating and apprehending Newsome.
A shooting occurred Tuesday (May 26) evening at the Coquille Sports Complex near Covington. Shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday, STPSO deputies were dispatched to the sports complex, which is located near the intersection of Highway 1085 and Highway 1077, after it was reported that shots were fired. Detectives with the Persons Crimes Unit identified the shooter as Steven Newsome (DOB 9-20-01) of Tickfaw, and warrants have been obtained for his arrest for Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Criminal Damage and Illegal Carrying of a Firearm.
Detectives with the STPSO Person Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, attempted to locate Newsome at all known addresses. They were able to locate him yesterday.
More charges may be coming.
