A Mandeville man was arrested this week after it was found he physically abused a toddler who was in his care earlier this month.
On May 05, deputies with St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office responded to a report on an unresponsive one-year-old at a residence on Independence Drive near Mandeville.
The mother of the child told detectives the toddler was in the care of her live-in boyfriend, Anthony Joliboix, when its breathing became shallow, and the child became unresponsive.
Emergency Medical Personnel arrived at the home, and transported the toddler to a local hospital, where it was determined the toddler had sustained a serious head injury consistent with physical abuse. The toddler was transferred to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans for further treatment.
Detectives with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit conducted an investigation concerning the injuries sustained by the toddler. During that investigation, Joliboix admitted to having shaken the child days prior to the reported medical emergency on May 05. He told detectives the incident occurred after he became frustrated and agitated with the child.
A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Anthony Joliboix, and he was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
The toddler has since been released from the hospital and is in the care of the biological father.
