The Bonnet Carre Spillway Bridge at I-10 was closed yesterday following a helicopter crash and was scheduled to remain closed until 2 a.m. Wednesday as Entergy worked to repair damaged lines.
Entergy says that approximately 20,000 customers in Kenner and Metairie were without service immediately following the crash.
Louisiana State Police responded to the crash on I-10 in St. John the Baptist Parish Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened on I-10 eastbound at milepost 211 on the Bonne Carré Spillway Bridge.
That was the beginning of multiple hours of traffic issues across the area as thousands of drivers were diverted to other routes.
Hours after that crash, the FAA confirmed the helicopter’s pilot was the only person on board and he was killed.
