U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that former long-time St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain, 56 YO, from Abita Springs, pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo to Count 15 of the Indictment returned in August 2019, charging him with soliciting and receiving bribes for his role in the privatization and operation of a work release program that operated in Slidell between 2013 and 2016.
Strain faces a maximum term of imprisonment of up to ten (10) years. He also faces a fine of up to $250,000.
Strain wore an orange jumpsuit and was shackled during his court appearance.
His lawyer did not speak to reporters following the hearing.
As part of the plea, the Government has made no representation, and cannot determine, the order in which he will serve any sentence of imprisonment imposed in this matter and in any currently pending state criminal matter in which he is a defendant.
Sentencing before Judge Milazzo has been scheduled for March.
Strain has already been convicted of multiple rapes in state court and faces a mandatory life sentence.
