Gov. John Bel Edwards will be holding a news conference in Lake Charles today after assessing damages from Wednesday’s severe weather.
The news conference is scheduled for approximately 9:30 a.m., according to the governor’s office.
A strong front brought severe weather to much of the region, including a tornado that touched down in south Lake Charles. The National Weather Service confirms maximum sustained winds peaked at 130 mph. Donald Jones with the National Weather Service says they are still studying the event but he suspects the event will probably be a high-end EF-2 or low-end EF-3.
The wind’s strength knocked down power lines, cutting off electricity to more than 7,500 Entergy customers. The utility company worked through the night to restore power.
