
Yesterday Louisiana reached a new record for deaths in a day.
According to the Department of Health, a total of 139 new deaths were reported for Aug. 24. The previous highest number of deaths in a single day was 129, reported on April 14, 2020. That means Louisiana has surpassed 12,000 deaths from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
There were 2,856 COVID patients in hospitals and 480 patients on ventilators.
Yesterday’s update represented increases across all age groups, with the largest percentage among 5-17 YO’s (22%), and regions, with the largest percentages coming from Regions 1 (Orleans), 2 (Baton Rouge), 4 (Acadiana) and 9 (Northshore).
