The proposed $325 million casino being pitched by Peninsula Pacific Entertainment now has a name.
After reviewing thousands of submissions by local residents, the name for the proposed resort in Slidell has been chosen, Camellia Bay.
Surrounded by project supporters at Patton’s Historic Salmen-Fritchie House the developer announced the naming contest winner, presented them with a check for $5,000 and revealed the winning name with updated project renderings.
If voters approve in November, the Camellia Bay Resort, Casino, and Marina will be a $325 million entertainment destination for the Slidell area.
The land-based resort would include a hotel, convention center, ballrooms, casino gaming, live music venues, green space for outdoor community events, a spa, a new marina, multiple pools, a lazy river, and seven restaurants.
Many citizens are against the casino saying it will enable gambling addiction, human trafficking, among other crime concerns. But others say it will help the economy and create jobs.
