Mississippi health officials are implementing a new guidance in relation to COVID-19.
State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs says the predictions they have had that the delta variant will become problematic in Mississippi are coming true. He says they are seeing outbreaks in group settings, including youth camps and nursing homes.
MSDH is recommending anyone age 65 or older or with health issues to avoid any indoor mass gatherings over the next few weeks–even if vaccinated. He says there is about 25 percent of the 65+ population that is still unvaccinated and there have been deaths among them, even among those who are vaccinated.
Dobbs says because there is not likely going to be a sudden uptick in vaccination rate, older and vulnerable people are going to suffer for it.
