The National Hurricane Center has posted tropical storm watches in the Lesser Antilles as it anticipates a tropical wave moving west toward the Caribbean will become a depression or tropical storm.
The system could be approaching the Gulf of Mexico by Monday afternoon.
For now, the hurricane center says Florida may be the first part of the U.S. to feel its effects. A senior hurricane specialist with the hurricane center says interests in Florida should monitor updates to the forecast for this system, but it is too soon to determine what if any impacts could occur there next week given the uncertainty in the long-range forecast.
