
On Friday a vehicle matching the description of the one being driven by Courtney Johnson, the missing Madisonville woman, was located submerged in a body of water just off I-10 in Mississippi.
On Friday morning St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives were searching for Johnson along the I-10 corridor in Mississippi when they observed an area where a vehicle had recently exited the roadway. Mississippi authorities were notified and began their search in the adjacent water.
Shortly after 2:00 p.m., Mississippi authorities recovered Johnson’s 2016 Mazda 6, which appeared to have driven off the roadway. The car was found submerged in a body of water off Interstate 10 approximately eight miles from the state line. A body was located inside.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into the fatal crash, however foul play is not suspected.
A family member contacted the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office to report Johnson missing Wednesday, June 24 after she failed to meet up with friends at a Biloxi-area casino as planned.
Hancock County Coroner Derek Turnage confirmed that evidence at the scene points to the body recovered as that of Courtney Johnson. Turnage also said an autopsy will be done today to confirm the cause of death.
