Southeastern Louisiana University student Amy Schneida of Pearl River, received the William F. Sherman, M.D. Memorial Scholarship.
Schneida is a senior in biology preparing for the MCATS.
The Sherman family endowed the scholarship in memory of the late Dr. Sherman of Ponchatoula, a 1971 Southeastern alumnus who graduated from the Tulane School of Medicine in 1975 and was named Tulane Intern of the Year in 1976. He was at the beginning of his residence in orthopedic surgery shortly before his death.
The scholarship supports students seeking careers in medicine.
Supporting Schneida as she received this award were retired Southeastern Professor of Zoology and Sherman’s friend Danny Acosta, Mallory Crouch, Sherman’s granddaughter, who will enter the Tulane School of Medicine this fall, following in her grandfather’s footsteps, and Patti Neihaus, Sherman’s sister.
